It
is with pride and pleasure that I convey the news that a paper published
by Indresan Govender, Andrew McBride, and Malcolm Powell has been
awarded the 2006 Peterson Award for The Best Applications Paper
published over a two year period in the Journal of Experimental
Mechanics. The award is bestowed by the Society of Experimental
Mechanics, based in the USA, and we have been invited to receive
the award at their next congress. This is a world-wide society,
and leading international journal, and the award was instigated
in 1970 with a number of distinguished scientists having received
it in the past.
To
quote from the letter:
"The
selection of your paper is a well-deserved public recognition by
your professional peers of the quality and thoroughness of the approach
you took to this highly challenging problem."
Paper
title "Improved experimental tracking techniques for validating
discrete element method simulations of tumbling mills", Journal
of Experimental Mechanics, vol44, no5, pp.593-607.
